-愛称は「ととの」。
-物腰の柔らかい落ち着いた雰囲気の講師。
-日本語のイントネーションに若干の難あり。

-高校時代に、当時、慶應義塾大学教授だった前嶋信次著『シルクロードの秘密国：ブハラ』（芙蓉書房、1972年）を読み感銘を受け、慶應に進学する。
-学生時代のサークルは『アフリカ研究会』、スワヒリ語に挑戦したが挫折したらしい。
